Love Jacket, One-of-a-Kind
This jacket represents a departure for me. In general the only thing I usually sew are buttons and snaps, but I am intrigued about giving new life to old garments, especially discarded leather or faux leather jackets. This one-of-a-kind jacket was created using a vintage pistachio green leather Lane Bryant jacket. First I deconstructed the whole jacket saving all the pieces as they would become my patterns for the replacement parts. I then created my own felted yardage from various silks, and wools. I further embellished the fabric with hand and machine embroidery. Once the fabric was completed I cut out my pattern pieces, the sleeves, collar and the back and replaced them. I finished the edges of the collar and the back with vintage upholstery trim, that my mother had collected over the years giving me a way to use up all her lovely bits.
